Dr. Gowda's office, while pleasant at first, became the worst dentist experience I have ever had. Normal cleanings went fine, but when it came time to pull my wisdom teeth the problems began. The teeth pulling was traumatic. First of all, I was given very little laughing gas (previous tooth pulling was much less stressful with the right amount of the stuff). Dr. Gowda has a small frame, and although I am quite small as well (5' 1" and 100lbs) she struggled a lot to pull my teeth out, to the point where one tooth got pulled out sideways and left a much larger gash which was more painful and took longer to heal. This all could've been overlooked, until months later, when I began receiving angry calls from her office about an unpaid bill. I asked her to call my mom, who pays my dentist bills, and my mom tells me that Dr. Gowda got so angry on the phone that she hung up on my mom, who was only trying to insist that the bill be run through insurance first. Dr. Gowda insisted that it was our responsibility to do this. This is not true. It is the dentist's responsibility to apply the insurance. I calmly insisted on the phone that we would happily pay the bill if she could first run it through insurance so I don't overpay hundreds of dollars. I even stopped by the office in person to drop off my insurance info again, and was yelled at by Dr. Gowda for several minutes while I stood there trying to be friendly and smiling at her. During this tirade she informed me that she sent my bill to collections, without ever giving me or my parents a written bill for payment. Why were we not notified earlier? Where was the friendly phone call reminder that a bill was due? Why were we charged the full pre-insurance amount? It sounds to me like she got a new secretary who might be more knowledgeable about the insurance, so maybe this problem has been solved for future patients. For me at least, the whole ordeal was quite stressful and I'm never going there again.
